Copeland Mills School of the Arts
Copeland Mills School of the Arts is the only performing arts school in Hampton Roads with all college degreed and certified instructors in dance and music. The school was founded in 1990 by Dianne Copeland Adcock and is in its 25thyear of providing the community with quality dance and music education. Our continuing goal is to provide the best performing arts education for students, both children and adults. The school offers classes in various genres such as: ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, contemporary, and Polynesian dance. In addition, Copeland Mills offers private music lessons in: piano, voice, guitar, bass, music theory, violin, viola, drums, percussion and dance.
The music department offers private instruction for music students of all ages and levels. The level of instruction depends on the ability of the student. Some take for promotion in band or orchestra, others take for the shear enjoyment of learning, while others take for the opportunity to perform on stage. Music students have a recital twice a year in a theater.
Copeland Mills School of the Arts has a performing arts company, Dance Magic, which performs locally and nationally. Next year is Copeland Mills’ 24th consecutive year performing in Disney World and they will attend workshops with Disney choreographers. Last year, Dance Magic danced in the opening number of the Miss America parade in Atlantic City, NJ. Many of our dancers performed as back up dancers for Aaron Carter in the National Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington, D.C. Some of our dancers will travel to New York for workshops, shows, and the Rockettes. Dance Magic is featured in the National Cherry Blossom Festival, opening and closing the Parade on national television.
